Rediscovering the Joy of Cooking

Cooking has always been a small enjoyment of mine. About a decade ago, I found great joy in experimenting with flavors, trying out new recipes, and creating delicious meals from scratch. However, a series of accidents, including a few unfortunate cuts, left me hesitant to wield a knife in the kitchen. As a result, I gradually distanced myself from cooking, relying more on my husband to cook, convenience foods or takeout. Recently, however, I’ve embarked on a journey to rediscover my love for cooking, and it’s been nothing short of transformative.

Facing Fear and Embracing Change:

The decision to get back into cooking wasn’t an easy one. Memories of past accidents with my hands lingered, and the fear of injuring myself again loomed. However, as the cost of living continued to rise, I realized that relying solely on drive-thru meals or restaurants wasn’t sustainable—neither for my health nor for my wallet. So, with a mixture of trepidation and determination, I stepped back into the kitchen, ready to confront my fears head-on.

A New Favorite Recipe: Beef Bourguignon à la Julia Child:

One recipe that has truly reignited my passion for cooking is Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon. When the movie Julie and Julia came out, I fell in love with cooking but never attempted this classic French dish. It’s certainly a labor of love, requiring a lot of time, patience, and attention to detail. From searing the beef to simmering it in a rich, wine-infused sauce, every step of the process is a joyous celebration of flavor and technique. This was the first time I made it, and I felt a sense of accomplishment, unlike any other recipe I’ve attempted prior—a reminder of why I fell in love with cooking in the first place.  I’m making it again tonight!

Inviting Others to Share:

As I continue to explore the culinary world anew, I’m eager to connect with others who share my passion for food. That’s why I’m extending an invitation to you, dear reader, to join me on this journey.
