Creating a Safe Space: Addressing TikTok’s Impact
As a business owner who values creating a safe and peaceful environment, I have witnessed a disheartening shift in the social media landscape, particularly on platforms like TikTok. What was once a source of entertainment and connection has now transformed into a breeding ground for anxiety and insensitivity. In this post, I want to express my concerns and frustrations with the current state of TikTok and shed light on the importance of maintaining a safe space both online and offline.
The Trend That Goes Against PRIDE:
One alarming trend I’ve observed on TikTok involves individuals reviewing people’s photos and attempting to determine their sexual orientation. This not only contradicts the values of inclusivity and acceptance that PRIDE stands for but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes. It’s crucial to remind ourselves that reducing someone’s identity to a mere guessing game is not cute or funny—it’s disrespectful and hurtful.
The Culture of Bullying and Harassment:
TikTok, once known for its light-hearted content, has regrettably become a platform where bullying and harassment thrive. It has exposed a gaping wound in our society, where it has become acceptable to laugh at others, irrespective of the insensitivity of our actions. This culture of ridicule has desensitized us to hate speech and eroded our empathy. We must recognize the impact of our words and actions on others and strive for a more compassionate online environment.
Candles: Creating Safe Spaces:
In my candle-making business, I am deeply committed to creating a safe, peaceful environment for my customers. I firmly believe that our physical surroundings can profoundly influence our well-being. Unfortunately, TikTok stands in stark contrast to the safe space I strive to create. In the future, I will be looking for a more perminate location to go Live.
We need to do better. By refraining from engaging in ignorant behavior, such as participating in the trends mentioned above, we can actively contribute to a more positive online experience. Let’s remember the values of inclusivity, acceptance, and empathy that are central to PRIDE and our shared humanity. As customers and community members, your support means everything. Together, we can create a safer and more welcoming online world.
Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on this matter. Let’s continue to foster an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and safe.
